The White Stuff is Here

by Nancy Wurtzel on November 12, 2012

Here’s the thing about snow: It’s sneaky.

Last night when I went to bed it was misting lightly.  Innocently,  I drifted off into slumberland.  When I opened my bedroom blinds this morning, there it was — a heavy dusting of the white stuff covering my lawn, accenting the trees and swirling in the air.

I was taken aback because I’d heard nothing.  Snow is not only sneaky, it is quiet.

This is the first snow of the year that has stayed longer than just few minutes, however it’s probably not here to stay.  The weather people are predicting temperatures will warm significantly later this week.  Silently, this snow will melt into the landscape.

But there will be much more snow in our near future.  This is Minnesota after all.  Perhaps when we are least expecting it, the snow will fall again…white, silent and persistent.

It told you it was sneaky.

Nice poetic post about snow. The writng is as gentle as a quiet snowfall.
